Short guide to creating unique product pages in Shopify

In Shopify Online Store 2.0, which was launched in the summer of 2021, there is support for creating unique "templates" for each product. If you (like us at Henmark) have a relatively small assortment, this can be used to create unique content (images, video, etc.) on the respective product page.

Below is a short guide that shows how we at Henmark have done it.

1. Go to the Online store and select Customize for your theme.
   
   
   
2. Navigate to the product for which you want to create a product template (below, for the sake of simplicity, I use the word product template).
   
   If the product is not yet posted, you can choose another product. The product template you create will not automatically be linked to the selected product, but this is done later in the administration interface of the product itself.
   
   
3. In the dropdown menu above the web page, you choose to create a new product template by first clicking on "Products" and then selecting "Create template" at the bottom of the list.
   
   
   
   
   
   
4. There will of course be a number of product templates to keep in order, so try to find a good naming convention. We have chosen to simply use the product name as the name of the respective product template. In some cases, we have used the same product template for several products and then you have to come up with a coherent name.
   
   It is also possible to create the product template based on an existing product template. This is a good way to both increase efficiency and uniformity in the design of the product templates.
   
   
   
5. Now it's time for the fun, ie. to design the page itself. Here you can choose to add sections of all kinds (images, videos, etc.) in the same way as for the home page.
   
   When you work with your product template, a preview for a particular product is displayed. You can switch between products by clicking Change in Preview (marked in green in the image). Switching to another product for preview does not mean that the product template is linked to the product. As said, this is done later in the product administration.
   
   
   
   
   
6. When you're done, save your new product template.
   
   
7. You connect the product template to your product in the product administration. At the bottom right is the field "Theme template" which shows a list of product templates (marked green in the image). Of course, you can also choose to link a product template to several products.
