Polyamide

Polyamide, often called nylon, is a synthetic fiber originally produced from crude oil. The fiber is relatively thin, recognized as durable and has good elasticity. Other good properties are that it is water-repellent, quick-drying and very good at keeping its shape. Thanks to its durability and technical properties, polyamide is often a very good choice for functional clothing.

What is recycled polyamide?
Recycled polyamide is significantly less resource-demanding than the production of completely new material, both with regard to pollution in air and water but also through reduced energy consumption in manufacturing. At HENMARK®, we aim to use only recycled polyamide. The origin then comes mainly as waste material from other production of polyamide products.

In our trousers, we use recycled polyamide with micro-stretch because it is a material that combines long life with high comfort. Micro-stretch means that the trousers have stretch in the width direction but not in the length direction.

Disadvantages of polyamide?
The properties of polyamide are often optimal for functional clothing that requires durability and comfort. However, the fiber has its origin in oil, which is less good from a sustainability perspective. To achieve the desired function, comfort and longevity in our garments, we use recycled polyamide which is a clearly better choice than newly produced polyamide. Polyamide is also a more expensive fiber than e.g. cotton, polyester and many other synthetic materials used in functional clothing.
